Forbidden City

Hi,

Am planning a trip to Beijing in the middle of March. Heard from a friend that the Forbidden City is closed for renovation works. IS that true and if so, for how long?

Thanks!
Jennifer

No, it's not true that the Forbidden City is closed for renovations. However the Hall Of Supreme Harmony, one of the biggest and most beautiful buildings inside, will indeed be covered up until approximately spring 2008 as it undergoes renovations.

Also a number of other less significant buildings along, especially, the Western route. Most are only closed for as long as it takes to paint them inside and out.

Oh...and best to post in the Beijing forum rather than the Beijing Shi forum.

Thanks Mark and Confucius for your replies...I'll post another there to see if anyone knows where are all the affected places in Beijing in Mar.

Btw, the Hall of Supreme Harmony though covered up, is it still open for viewing or closed?

xie xie!

I seem to remember that (at least) one of the main halls at the Temple of Heaven is also now closed until 2008, but they have opened another one that is normally not open to the public as compensation.
