Ko Tao weather in april

Hi guys.
me and my boyfriend just spend new year in koh tao. we had such a great time that we've recommended the island to my mum and her partner. they ahve booked to go in april for 2 weeks. i know the rainy season starts in april in some regions in thailand. I also know that the weather has been a little unpredictable in the past year or 2 in thailand, meaning the riany season lasted uncharacteristically long last dec. but can anyone tell me what the wetaher is usually like in april in the surat thani province (koh tao) and if the rain has usually set in by that time. i would hate for her to go and have rain for 2 weeks, not fun, esp for my mum who is a sun worshipper!

thanks guys
jen

The rainy season usually starts around mid June in Bangkok anyway.....However it varies in different areas.Ko Samui may be abit later like October.Have a look at the Weatherfish www.travelfish.org .It gives you an idea of the weather in different parts of Thailand.
Songkran Festival is Thai New Year so it a national holiday celebrated in most places even a bit on the Islands.Just make sure you book your accomadations before those 3 days.

The weather should be fine in April. I was there in March a couple of years ago and had great weather. The rainy season in Samui normally starts end of September and lasts until beginning/middle of January.

Any rain should be short sharp torrential downpours that last maybe an hour and then clear up.

Technically Nov/Dec is in the rainy season but you can get good weather during this time. Weather patterns seem more unpredictable these days. It's all down to luck. You may be lucky and have fine weather but be prepared for the possibility of rain and rougher seas.

Regards,
Dean.
