Grand Turk Island Info on Grand Turk?
Posted: Sat January 14, 2006 02:24 PM UTC
I would appreciate any comments or information on the island. I'm going 4/2 thru 4/12 of this year. Staying at the Manta House for awhile and then at Salt Raker Inn. My first trip to T & C Islands, so any info would be greatly appreciated. i.e. water temp that time of year, quality of swimming beaches, weeds in the water?, price of food and drinks, taxis, bars, restaurants, bugs and mosquitos, excursions, attitude of the people, availability of groceries, etc. I'm going by myself, as usual, single female, but I've travelled this way for centuries and know the ropes. Since Spirit Airlines is flying directly into Grand Turk from the States now, there should be a huge rise in tourism, Mostly I would like to know what there is to do other than dive. Let me know, if you have been there or have heard anything from someone who has been. Best to go prepared, you know. Thanks.

Grand Turk Island RE: Info on Grand Turk?

Hi Moojesty.

I hate to inform you, but the Turks & Caico's is still very uncommerlized, i.e., not a whole lot to do topside. There are fantastic snorkeling spots to be found almost anywhere or you can take a tour to 1 of the cays for snorkeling. Swimming....at any of the beach's. The water is crystal clear, free of weeds and very, very warm. Best to go cool off in the pool. Grand Turk has some pubs and is basically considered a historical town, sound a stroll around town is a must. I stayed in Grace Bay at Provo. Provo has a lot more topside activities than Grand Turk, although not a lot. But hey, they may have added some new adventures since I was last there in 2003. Check out my Turks & Caico's page to get an idea of what's happening, what to take, etc. Oh & in answer to your question about bugs. For the most part you won't know their there.
