Capri Getting over to Capri
Posted: Tue January 10, 2006 07:06 PM UTC
We are staying in the Almafi Coast area Sorrent or Postiano? We will have a rental car and want to visit Capri. Should we plan for an over night stay? or just a day trip?

Can some one give me some advice on the Ferries vs hydrofoils. I looked up the info on the net and it seems I have 4 options to get there. After reading the info I wasn't sure on which to choose? The jetboats, the ferries, the hydrofoils, or the SNAV?

Any advice is appreciated

this was several years ago I was there, but I took a ferry over there, it does not take that long as I recall. I spent a whole day there and was able to see alot, you can hire a cab for a set price w/ a converatable who can show you the island. I'm not sure of the prices of overnight accomodations. I would assume there a bit pricey. Beautiful place though in addition, take the chair lift up the hill great view. enjoy....wish I was going there now....

Capri can definitely be done in a day. This might not be the best way to see all the hidden places but, on a rushed schedule, we were able to see select parts of the island in only a few hours. Instead of taking a cab, I'd recommend the bus system and walking. We only took a cab when rushing down from Marina Piccola to the ferry dock at the end of the day.
As far as which boat to take, we took the ferry. It was inexpensive and left from very near our hotel in Sorrento. Choose whichever fits your schedule and departure location.
Capri is wonderful! Don't let your research intimidate you - it'll be a wonderful trip!

we took the ferry from Positano which takes longer than from Sorrento and the trip was maybe 50 minutes. The faster craft do the trip in maybe half that time. I would agree that Capri cannot be done "in depth" in one day but to stay overnight is expensive and the hassle involved in moving two times more on a long trip is not worth it.And you really won't miss that much. There is plenty to see and do on the peninsula. Note you say you are staying in Sorrento or Positano. sorrento is more convenient but Positano is so much more beautiful. Enjoy your trip. N.
