Santa Elena de Uairén Travel Forum

I'm coming to Venezuela mid February to do volunteer work in Santa Elena de Uairen for a few months. I'm interested in finding out more about the town I'll be staying in. If anyone knows of a website with info, or has stayed there and can let me know about the lifestyle, I'd really appreciate it. I'm specifically interested in hearing about local museums, educational facilities and classes, music lessons, gym facilities and prices, restaurants...and anything else that may be of interest.

Estare en Venezuela en el medio de Febrero haciendo trabajo voluntario por algunos meses, y me interesa saber mas de la ciudad. Si alguien sepa de un website con informacion, o ha pasado tiempo ahi y me puede contar lo del estilo de vida, se lo agradeceria. Me interesa particularment los museos locales, facilidades educativas y classes, lecciones de musica, gimnasios, restaurantes...y cualquier otra cosa de interes.

Hello there,

I've been in Santa Elena in december 2000. I was there to climb the table mountain Roraima. Don't remember much about the town, it's very small. With a couple of agencies that organise tours to Roraima, the best tourguide of them all is called Rawlins, great guy, don't know if he still works there....

The surroundings are so so so beautiful! The town itself is maybe a bit boring though..

Santa Elena es un pueblo muy pequeño, su principal interes turisticos son los tepuyes que quedan cerca, asi como el comercio de oro. En cuanto a facilidades educativas se que hay por lo menos un nucleo de la UNEFA (Universidad Experimental de la Fuerza Armada) que da cursos a nivel de tecnico. En cuanto a Gimnasios dudo que exista, y restaurants, deben haber pequeños sitios donde comer. Saludos
