A very low risk indeed, unless you are visiting during the rainy season forget the tablets. Those malaria tablets can be more of a hazzard than the mosquito, just take a look at the side affects they can cause. bbuuuzzzz......Jon

I have been to Samet since twenty years, and even though there a persistent rumour of Malaria which can't be removed from the books - possibly because of its touch of adventure if there should be malaria? - I never ever heard any inhabitant of the island talking of a malaria risk. Neither have I ever used any medicaments against the disease, it is completely unnecessary here.
But beware of the sandfleas - if you can - which especially love the soft skin of women and children. The sting like moskitoes, usually into the feet or the legs, and cause a hurtful inflammation, which finally becomes a scar and a dark spot on the skin which remains for one to several years. My wife tries not to dig her feet into the sand when sitting, and she believes that the wicked bastards sting at dawn, like the (malaria) moskitoes: This seems to be the best precaution against malaria or sandfleas: Not to get exposed to the tiny monsters at sunset and the hour afterwards.
