| Whistler | Haven't Skied in Years... Posted: Thu January 5, 2006 12:11 AM UTC
Should I be nervous about skiing Whistler? I'm hoping it's like riding a bike, but I'm starting to worry after reading some of the other posts about how advanced Whistler is.
Also, any tips on where the very cute/fun men hang out? I suppose I should mention that I'm 30 so I'm probably looking to avoid the very young hangout places. |

LOL, Whistler has it all for runs, Green to Double Black.
I will probably get corrected but, Buffalo Bills, Longhorn, Dusty's, Citta, The Dubliner and any restaurant lounge.

Whistler Mountain is beginner, intermediate and advanced skier friendly and so don't be nervous. You might consider taking a refresher lesson (who knows you may have a very cute guy for an instructor or perhaps as a fellow student) I learned to ski there many years ago and have enjoyed skiing there ever since. Our children aged 3 and 6 began their ski experience there too. The Olympic run is beginner/intermediate and winds it's way down the mountain for 5 miles. There are many blue runs besides the blacks and double blacks and so is perfect for a group with varied skills. Can't tell you where to find the guys exactly but the village is full of places to meet up with people of all ages. Cost really does eliminate the very young crowd in most of the restaurants, bars etc.

Thanks so much for both of your replies! It definitely eases my concerns. I'm so ridiculously excited about going as I've wanted to go for years. It just looks so beautiful and like such a great atmosphere. Counting down the days now!!

Amanda, you will be surprised how easy it is to ski at Whistler. I don't know if any very cute/fun men are around, since Griff and I are not there, but the places Griff mentioned are good as well as High Mountain Brewhouse. Dinner time, head for Araxi in the Village.

Start an execise program. "Jogging" and "knee bends with weights on your shoulders" will help a lot , with the skiing that is. Powder snow at Whistler can be heavy at times, so having strong legs will allow you to ski a full day.

I've only skiied 3 times in my life, and I'm very much a beginner... I mean, I still can't really stop! However, friends went to Whistler in December a few years ago, and I was invited. I too was nervous, but once I was up there, I stuck to the green runs the entire time, and I had a blast! It was really a lot easier than I had anticipated because there are beginner runs all up and down the mountain. The beauty of Whistler is that all levels of experience can enjoy that mountain, whereas usually you'd have to sacrifice on other mountains (ie: usually you have beginner/intermediate mountains or intermediate/advanced mountains, but rarely all three together).
If I can ski Whistler and love it, you can ski Whistler and love it too. :)

you'll find runs to meet your needs. however, up until now (i haven't heard for a couple of days) the conditions were horrible in whistler. no snow, lots of rain. i hope the conditions improve before you go.
