Hi All

Going to Malindi in February for 10 days Fishing and Safari + Beach. Any advice about prices? Beer, Cigs and Meals etc. Also any cons to watch out for. Staying at the Driftwood, has anyone stayed there.

Thanks

Hey,

Am a Kenyan, living and working in Nairobi.

Malindi is a lovely place, am sure you will love the fishing. Beer goes from around $1 to $2 depending on where you have it. You can also buy it from the supermarkets and hence cheaper. Kenyan beer is definately very good. Cigs around $1 for a good pack. Meals will range from say $2 if in the local eating places to say $10 if in some real fine restaurant. It all depends on where you go. Like all places Malindi has its shares of cons out to make a quick dollar, for most things please seek advice from say the Drifthood hotel or other reliable source, you may also seek the help of other visitors at the hotel, they can give you a guide on a number of things.

Regards,

Mike.

Hi there. Driftwood is very nice with excellent food , good snack lunches and a nice pool and great beach location. Don't get conned by the local touts but rather speak to the local muzungus ( white people ) who will point you in the
right direction. Change your cash at the Arab money market in the centre of town ......anyone will tell you how to get there and visit " Blingnet " cyber cafe and restaurant for excellent service and inexpensive food .Have a great trip and the fishing currently is excel;lent with plenty of marlin around !!

I am considering a trip to Malindi later this year for a week. The beach looks amazing,I am just curious about local nightlife. Are there many pubs/discos here,or maybe another part of Kenya?
