Ko Samet ATM's on the island
Posted: Mon January 2, 2006 05:05 PM UTC
Staying in Sai Kaew in April and was wondering if someone can confirm there is an ATM local. Heard there was at least one in Sai Kaew but would like to know for sure before I put all my faith in the plastic card.

Many Thanks

Hi

There are at least 2 cash machines on Ko Samet, both on 7-11 stores near Nuanthip Pier. I am not sure where the place is you are staying but with the size of Samet it cant be far from the machines. I stayed at Ao Wai and reccomend you visit the quiet beach there.

Thanks Andrew

That makes it so much easier not having to fart around with wads of cash or travellers cheques.

Is Nuanthip pier right on the north of the island, as we are staying at Hat Sai Kaew in the North East????

Any other things we should consider doing on Samet, apart from kicking back and relaxing for 11 days???

Hi

Sorry I gave the wrong name for the pier, the pier on Ko Samet is called Nadan Pier, not Nuanthip Pier. The cashpoints are near Nadan Pier so dont panic.

The only other thing which is a must is to hire scooters for the day. It only costs around 200 baht for 24 hours, and the main road on the island is mostly unmade and very bumpy which makes it fun.

Have fun.

Cheers fella,

Most appreciated. Not sure I'd let the missus loose on a scooter mind, plus wouldnt want her on the back of mine screaming in my ear.

Will settle for shanks pony or a bicycle LOL.

Once again many thanks for your replies.

Ko Samet What to do on the island

"Any other things we should consider doing on Samet, apart from kicking back and relaxing for 11 days?"

You don't need a motor bike on this island. Walking along the beaches and is and gives you time to admire stone-formations, tiny coves and vegetation, or groovy bars and restaurants. Help to keep the island natural, it is a national park after all ...

Hi Steve,

I've just come back from a one week trip to Ko Samet. I can confirm that there definately are ATM's there. Ao Sai Kaew is the busiest beach on the island so, not surprisingly, there is a 7-11 there. There is at least one ATM outside it. No problem using it with our international bank cards. I think I may have seen another near by but can't be sure.

If you get a chance and want to get away from Sai Kaew to nicer beaches i would seriously recommend you walk along to the beach south. We stayed at Ao Vong Duen (the 2nd largest beach) and it was so much more chilled out. Ao Tubtim, which is between them is particularly gorgeous for a day of chilling.
Hope you enjoy your trip.
