Oaxaca de Juárez Solo female traveller wants to meet VTers in Oaxaca

Hi. I'll be in the city of Oaxaca from January 18 to 25, on a solo vacation. If anyone else will be there at the same time and would like to meet, let me know. I think evenings would be better as I'll be out and about during the days (what with all the attractions around the city!). Cheers!

Hi Marie-France,
suppose I won't be around Oaxaca that time of year (just came back home from a trip to the Oaxacan Pacific coast jajaja), but I wish you loads of fun anyway. What are your travelling plans?

Hi Anna,

I plan to spend 2 nights/1 day (Jan 17) in Mexico City first, then take a bus to Oaxaca for a week. After that, I will either fly to Puerto Escondido for a few days at the beach, or go north (near Ixtlan) for some cloud forest exploration. I'm flying out of Mexico City on January 30, and may or may not spend one last day (Jan 29) in the city.

Hmmm, I don't remember there being any kind of forests around Ixtlan.

Hey there Monobichi,
north of the City of Oaxaca, there is the Sierra Norte or Sierra Juarez. This chain of mountains is covered with forests which range amongst the best 'conversados' (=kept???) in the whole country. Right there is Ixtlan, for many some kind of the region's capital and starting point for a whole lot of adventures in this zone. This whole region, like Hierve el Agua about 100 km from there, is in beneath a huge zone of forests.
I didn't know either ;-)
Saludos from Daeaeffae,
Anna

HI Marie France,
we just got back from Mexico. We also went to Puerto Escondido which we liked a lot!! Nice, tranquil beach town with small hotels and a great mix of backpackers and locals. We took the night bus from Oaxaco to PE which took about 8 hrs.
Have a great trip!!!

Thanks everybody. Here is a practical question for you. I'll be travelling with very little luggage so I have to pick my footwear very carefully. Are most streets in Oaxaca covered in cobblestones or asphalt? Thanks!

Cobblestones! ... the interesting ones.
You should do fine with a pair of 'tenis'.
Have fun in Oax,
Anna

Sorry, you're two years too late. I went to Oaxaca in January 2006! I really enjoyed it though. Wish I could be there now. :-)
