Dresden - Czech / Urgent!
Posted: Mon September 23, 2002 05:46 AM UTC
Hi all, I was asking about roads from Dresden to Prague a few weeks ago, and got some helpful advice. But now it seems some of the helpful advice isn't up-to-date anymore, and we are driving down from Sweden tomorrow, so I really need your help!
Originally we were planning on doing E55 all the way down through Dresden, and going through border Zinnwald, then to Teplice, and finally Prague. But then I was told there were detours along that road, and finally that that road was closed and I should go via road 172 through Pirna. Well I checked a source last night which says now that road is closed, and the one that goes via border crossing Zinnwald is open??
Can someone either help me by sending me a url which is accurate about up-to-date road conditions throughout Germany and/ Czech? Something that isn't too difficult to understand, since my german is limited (and after a while it just becomes guesswork and headaches.).
We don't want to get down there and end up 2 hours down the road only to have to turn around and go back another way.

I really appreciate any help! :)

Try out www.adac.de the German automobil club they are pretty up to date on these things. The site is in German but at least you can find out where their closest regional office is to where you are now and there they normally speak english too.

Not sure how helpful this is, but a week and a half ago trains were still not running directly from Prague to Dresden.

Prague was up and running, except that the metro was still mostly out of action. Extra trams were laid on to cover and although they seemed to be coping bravely they were all packed out.

Hi,
well, I was calling the ADAC (German Automobil Club) again and they told me that the border in Zinnwald is still closed for cars, only pedestrians can cross. Sorry for disinforming you! The German automobil club advised me to cross border near Petrovice. Coming from Dresden on road 172 to Prina and turning here right on a small road to Petrovice.
.
Here you find all detours/ building sites ("Baustellen") and traffic jams ("Staus") in Saxony: http://www.jumpradio.de/ (click on the word on the small green bar at the bottom)
