Hi,

Is Negombo very near to the colombo airport? How near and how much is the taxi fare from the airport to Negombo?

I'll be transiting in Colombo for 12 hrs and need a place to stay for the night and what can I do and where to go in Negombo?

FYI, I'll reach colombo at 5pm and leaves colombo at 7am the next day.

Would appreciate all comments and hotel recommendation.

Maybe you should try for a dayroom at the airport itself, it is maybe better that way, and cost around $20.00, so would be cheaper too.

There is no day room at Airport and you can find some hotel very close to airport

*Airport Garden Hotel in Negombo Road and its great place
*Goodwood Plaza very very close to airport and simple place with some general facilities
*Tamarine Tree is also closed but it opposite side

If you go in Negombo you can walk in city too and most hotels are located by beach. its takes like 10 - 15 minutes to airport from there

First visit Sri Lanka Tourism Office and pick accomodation guide book and choose hotel as you want

I Think its better if you can stay at Airport Garden Hotel

Usualy airline provide accomodation facilities if you stay more than 8 hrs. But I dont know how do you fly and which Airline

If you can give some general flight details I can give some tips

unfortunately I'm out of country and even I cant contact my sisters to accomodate you right this time - Sorry about it. My house is about 5 minutes from Airport. mmmm

Airport Garden Hotel was my 1st choice but there are no availability on the dates that I want... So now, I have to source for other place to stay...

I will check out the Sri Lanka Tourism Office first to see if there's any hotel within my budget...

By the way, I'll be flying from singapore to Colombo on 24th Mar and reach Colombo ard 5pm and my flight to Male is at 7.20am on 25th Mar. Both by Sri Lanka Airlines..

Anyway, there are still time to find right accomodation and I also want to explore colombo/Negombo for few hrs.. And I wouldn't want to trouble you by staying at your place.. :)

Right now, there are only 2 of us coming to colombo, me & my bf... But some of our friends thought of tagging along too so I'm not so sure how many of them will be joining us..

Hope you can give me tips on the Sri Lanka Airlines Accomodation facilities..

If you purchased air ticket from Singapore to male via Colombo, Sri Lankan Airline must give free accomodation + foods.

usually they put passengers at Aiport Garden and Good Wood Plaza

Contact your travel agent or company thet you purchased your ticket. Then ask them to arrange your accomodation in transit

if you are transit you dont need to go direct to immigration. There is special door for transit passngers and you can meet some officers there and they will take you to transit hotel

Take that opportunity and dont pay by yourself.

Contact person who purchased your ticket and get it.

If there anything going wrong, give me the details of person and company details in Sigapore and I can contact some customer care officers in Colombo and complaint

Negombo is about 20 mins from airport an okay sort of place silver sands is an excellent budget place or i can offer you a room for the night if i am around as i basically live here

I think its better to talk to travel agent in professional way. Because they wont help you

I meant.. visit them and get any confirmation words in writing from them. As per my travel experiences you can have FREE accomodation, foods, transport from airport to place and back if your transit is more than 8 hours and Free international phone calls if its unexpected delay.

Its 100% if you fly with same ariline service or group

Don't worry about it. You will get Free accomodation + Foods + Transport to hotel and back and FREE Sleeping time

Note: 24 March is my Birthday and I wish you will bring some Birthday gifts for me. mmmmmmm.... Actually I dont have any idea where I will be stay for Birthday. I'm planning to go in Miami for Conference and Expo that will be from 22 - 24 March 2006. But not confirmed yet.

Without wishing to be rude in anyway, there is actually a day room, with beds in the departure lounge, i was there 4 weeks ago, and confirm that there was day rooms avaiable, all you need to do is pick up courtesy phone in the departure lounge.

I never tried to rude at all. Good to know some day rooms are available

But, I know some time no Ambulanace at the airport and we cant trust. Good example is one of most Sri Lankan Singer feltdown when he getdown from the flight and officials kept him about an hour at the airport without treatments and defficulties to find ambulance.

Recently people died by accident and its careless maintanance service

usually I'm trying to give tips to foreigners to have best experience in Sri Lanka and be away from unwanted people and trouble

I really appolegize if you get hurts

I was trying to advice this person to get something special without paying any money and spending time at the airport

Let's not get misunderstood.. I read somewhere that there are Day Rooms in the Airport but wasn't sure if I should get it.. hence, I tried to get more info from locals in colombo... And I was afraid that it would be difficult to get a Day Room in Colombo or worst still if I'm not comfortable in the Day Room...And Oscar is nice to give me tips on what I could do.. However, I really appreciate ur suggestion...

If you are in town on 24th Mar, I would like to meet up with you and have a small birthday celebration for u.. hehehe.. And I don't mind bringing a small gift for u from Singapore (Anyway, U have been a great help!)..

But we shall confirm again once my trip and your conference are confirmed....

And yes, I'll try to talk to the travel agent in a professional way... I've been calling them a dozen times for the past few days and made a lot of changes to my trip.. ;p

Hope they are not pissed off with me... I will call them tomorrow to make and confirm all changes...

No need to appologise at all, you did not upset me in ANY way, i was just pointing out Nora that there was a day room at airport if all else failed.
I do appreciate that you give good advice for people on this site, and indeed, i have learned some useful things from you myself too, so, keep up the good work please.
I am in SL for 4 weeks from end of this month, pity it was not later, then i could have joined you and Nora for your birthday party!, but have a great birthday anyway.

Love this website - all this uptodate chat!! Anyway - i am at the planning stage of a 2 week family holiday to Sri Lanka for Dec 2006 - perty of 10 incliduing 6 kids aged between 10 and 16. I'd love some uptodate reports on Browns Beach Hotel, Negombo and the area please. Also a weather report as we have enough rain here in the UK and if December is a wet month in Sri Lanka mayber we'll go another time!! if anyone can offer advice etc on sutiability of the hotel and area for a mixed family where most love adventure but a few like the western luxury lifestle i'd really appreciate it!
Also - anyone know prices on booking a 3 or 4 day brak to the Maldives from Sri Lanka as the 'older' ones may try to incorporate that in the 2 week stay?
