| Cuzco | 2 day or 4 day Inca trail Posted: Sat December 24, 2005 12:57 AM UTC
Hi,
I am planning on spending a week in Cuzco in January and as it looks, won´t have the time to hike the 4 day trail (apart from january being rainy season). Has anyone done the 2 day trail starting km 104? Can you recommend it or is it just a cheap version of the 4 day trail and not worth doing? If recommendable, any hints on an agency? I have been talking to Chaska as well as Wayki ... does anyone know them? Cheers, |

I think the 4 day hike is superior to the 2 day version. On the 4 day hike you will see a lot more ruins and get to experience the true beauty of the Andes. There is a great feeling of accomplishment after hiking 50 kms and arriving at MP. That being said, I think the 2 day hike is still better then arriving in Aguas Calientes and taking the bus up. If you dont have time it is better than nothing, but if you can cram in the 4 day hike I think you would appreciate everything more.

First of all, make sure you book your "licence" weeks ahead ... even during the rainy season. I have been with Qente last December on the two-day trail, we were quite happy with the service. SAS travel is a big operator too.
I would consider the full trail outside the rainy season, we saw several groups quiting the long inca trail due to heavy rains ... no matter how fit you are or how professional is your camping equipment, when a tropical rain hits your campsite at night there is not much you can do.
