Lagos Lagos jobs and the environment
Posted: Wed December 21, 2005 03:06 PM UTC
Hello all,
I am wondering how hard it would be for a 27 year old blonde, attractive, white american women to get a job in Lagos and make say 900 american dollars, to get back to the USA ? In addition, what is the environment like meaning how safe is it really for her there ? Please let me know any more information that may be helpful, a friend of mine is currently there-- Thank you all

hi, Nigeria is quite strict when it comes to expats working , so you would need a working visa - called an STR visa. to get that u would require a sponsor company. it is pretty expensive here but it is generally safe and there is a large american community here. mainly in the oil industry. it is a thriving, growing city with many opportunities. the people are friendly and you just have to apply all the normal common sense rules of travelling in a strange country. let me know if u need more info. good luck.

You are definetly asking for trouble. Lagos is a nasty city, even the "SUN" Nigerian newspaper used the same terminalogy. With your description you can easily fall into the wrong hands. Everyone will promise you everything, don't believe anyone, the preachers are the worst.
If you look for help go to a person from your own country, maybe you will have luck and this person will help you out. The only thing you would probably be able to do without a VISA would be prostitution, this in Nigeria will kill you either by another person or AIDS which is rampant in that country. Lagos is a very expensive city by African standards, the wages unfortunately are very low for Nigerian's, just keep that in mind too.
I'm a white woman and have lived in Nigeria so believe me, I know what I'm talking about.

Hi, I know alot of time has gone by since you wrote in, but I agree
with the other white lady...it is very dangerous and people can't be
trusted. I lived there about 1 year and I am an attractive white woman. BEWARE!
