Hello,
Surely, some of vt members are living on Bequia island. Can you, please, tell me how is the weather now? what grocery products are in a lack on Bequia so we would buy it in Europe before the trip? I would highly appreciate your help. Have a Merry Christmas everybody!!!
Nata
It was very rainy in November and early December but things are fine now. Typical for this time of year. As for groceries from Europe, why bother ? Doris has regular imports from Martinique - wines, cheeses, frozen meats. It costs more or course than at home but do you really need to cart this stuff ? I'd make an exception for coffee.
with regards to groceries. The one thing you will not get in Bequia is Fresh Milk. You can get tinned or UHT Milk however. (if that's a big deal). We have brought Frozen Fresh Milk from Barbados, but Europe would be a little far to bring that. Meats are also somewhat of a problem but as said above, places do have frozen meats for purchase as well. Fresh Fish is available and most veggies, which are mainly brought in by ferry from St. Vincent.
Enjoy your stay. Bequia is a lovely laid back island. When are you going??
I'm from Scotland but I lived in St. Vincent for two years. Bequia was a favourite day trip destination on Sundays. The dry season will be starting about now in then Eastern Caribbean.
Most countries are very strict about taking food in (with good reason) so I would forget about bringing food from Europe. You will be able to buy most things in St. Vincent if not in Bequia. Prices may be a bit higher than you are used to in France - especially on Bequia. Maybe nip across to one of the big supermarkets in Kingstown one morning.
Be sure to have some East Caribbean Dollars with you as the bank in the airport is closed at the most bizarre times and you could end up being unbable to pay for your taxi.
Enjoy Bequia, it's truly beautiful, and if you ever find it's just too relaxing then it's la short ferry trip to Kingstown (capital of St. Vicent and the Grenadines).
