Battambang from Siem Reap to Battambang
Posted: Sat December 17, 2005 07:52 PM UTC
HI,

I have read that the boat trip from Siem Reap to Battambang is worth doing.
Has anyone done this recently?

How long does it take?

Whats the best way to return to Siem Reap?

Can you suggest a place to stay in Battambang?

How long should one stay and what can one do there?

thanks,

priya

Yes, the trip is worth it. I did that route when I was in Cambodia. You may want to refer to my Cambodia page about the boat ride. You will get to see a lot of things during your journey.

Accommodation wise, not to worry as there will be many people recommending once you reach the jetty. Accommodation is very affordable, even for ensuite aircon room. There are a few budget hotels in the town centre of Battambang, near to the market. Visit the market in the evening when locals start to do their marketing.

Have fun in Cambodia.

The Boats are best during the high water season from Sept to January 6 hours From Chhong Khneas port. From Feb the river levels drop and the journey becomes longer and more difficult. By March it is beast avoided as it can take up to 12 hours with boat changes and road transfer, on a poor road to the city.

Teo Hotel in centre of town is the best in the City. Rooms are from $11 to $44 for suite rooms. There are plenty of small temples around. Banan is a hill temple with great views over the lovely country. It is worth spending 2 days. There are good road links to P Penh (bus 6 hours)and train (12 hours)if you want a real travel experience and have no worries about time!

The boat trip is definitely worth it provided the water levels are high enough. I took it just two weeks ago and it was great.

I wanted to go for the boat trip, my LP guide said it's good. And you get to see the floating village. Others I know agree. But I ran outta time and didn't make it there. If you've the time, you should go.
