I am traveling to Iquitos, Peru in August. It looks like a much shorter distance to go there from Quito, Ecuador than from Lima. Are there any flights from Quito to Iquitos? Does anyone know the cost difference or advantages/disadvantages between going from Quito or Lima? I hear there is a bus + boat option from Quito. Does this mean a long bus ride on scary roads? I have a terrible fear of heights. How long is the boat ride and from where does it go? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

No way, bus + boat from Quito to Iquitos.
Take a flight in Lima its costs 190 dollars, you can see the mountains of Los Andes, like Huascaran and then our Amazonia. The flight is like 90 minutes.

If you buy a plane ticket in Lima to Iquitos its US$90 one way. Theres a bus and boat option fron Lima and from Quito. I dont know about the one from Quito but the one from Lima takes about 6 days in total and doesnt save you enough money to be worth it, unless, like me, you like the idea of cruising down a part of the amazon most people dont get to see and getting to know the locals on the boat

There are no planes from Quito to Iquitos. You have to go to Lima and take one of the airlines. The price from Lima to Iquitos is $88.00 to $116.00 dollars depending on the airline and time of year. The airlines are Aerocondor, Lan Peru, and Star Peru. The airlines are only open in the morning and in the evenings so as to be able to purchase tickets. I have tried to purchase on the internet and have never been unable to receive them. The bus ride is difficult and long and the boat ride is longer. I can talke several days to go from Quito to Iquitos. I have been going to Iquitos for over 2 years now and have tried to travel to different places and the only way is by boat or plane.

Time wise and safety wise I would go with the Quito to Lima and then Lima to Iquitos by plane. One company was offering special airfare from Lima to Iquitos for only $54 US. I just finished with an absolutely amazing jungle tour in Iquitos. My guide Guido spoke perfect English and we got to see an abandance of animals and plants in the jungle.
