| Surat Thani | Buses from Surat Thani to Krabi Posted: Wed December 14, 2005 08:26 AM UTC
Hi,
Does anyone know how regularly buses leave from Surat Thani to Krabi or what the taxi fare for this journey would be (what is the distance?). Basically, I could take an overnight train to ST and then bus to Krabi, but that means hanging around Bangkok for an extra day so I'm thinking of flying in to ST and then either spending the night there and catching a bus the next day, or else catching one the same day. Flights are pretty full this time of year! |

There is a bus for Krabi that leaves directly at the Surat Thani train station at 7am and needs a bit more than 3 hours to Krabi. (info is based on the situation in April 2004), but I wonder why you want to go to Surat Thani first ...
> thinking of flying in to ST and then either spending > the night there and catching a bus the next day, or > else catching one the same day When you are prepared to fly to Surat Thani, why not directly to Krabi? Thai Airways have 4 daily flights for that route, and I trust that some cheap airlines also fly there. With Thai Airways the flight to ST from BKK costs 2900 Baht, from BKK to Krabi it is 3100. So, instead of flying to Surat Thani and proceed by bus (which will costs about 400 Baht), why not save time AND money by flying directly? Alternatives: direct bus from BKK (leaving in the morning between 7 and 8am, or overnight bus leaving by 7pm) or train to Trang and continue from there by bus (or taxi).

Thanks for the reply globerover.
The reason I'm not flying into Krabi is simple...the flights are full. We're talking Christmas weekend here and I don't fancy sitting on standby.. So, Surat Thani or Nakhon si Thammarat are my options at present.

I see, the Christmas/New Years Eve period is always a problem. Even the 24-seater-VIP-buses will probably be booked out already. I trust that "Bangkok Airways" flies to Krabi, too. They are more expensive than Thai Airways, so there might be a flight that is not yet fully booked, I think, though, you have to fly via Phuket or Ko Samui from BKK.
