Hi!
The best day trips I can recommend around Lisbon are Sintra, Cascais and Mafra.
Of course you can go to Porto, but that takes 3h30m on each way, so maybe it's better to go there with more time, especially because it's a lovely city that deserves more time to really appreciate it.
Faro might not be a good idea, I wouldn't recommend.
Other options are Leiria, Fátima or Coimbra.
Places like Batalha, Alcobaça, Nazaré and Óbidos are also very interesting...
For more information on these places just look through VT, for more help, just ask...

Hope it helps,
Enjoy your stay,
Helio

cheap daytrips from Lisbon are Nazaré - (beach), Alcobaça, Obidos, Cascais and Sintra. Not Faro or Porto, they are to far and i think you'll find a lot to see near by.

Michelle I work in the Lisboa Tourism office and the Tours that would recomend would be , on day take the train to Sintra , visit the monumets and than take the bus to Cascais ( the one that cross Guincho beach ) and have some free time in Cascais and from here you can take another train to Lisboa that would take 30 minutes and cost 1.30€ .
I think you could also go OPorto altough I think you should sleep one nigh as otherwhise its too tyring .. we do have some other nice places around but its more difficult to get there such as Setubal , Sesimbra , Obidos ( beautiful medieval town ) but I think either you rent a car or otherwhise its too difficult to get to all this places ...
Anyway in Lisboa there is plenty to see so I'm sure 2 days here an another day in Sintra/Cascais
have a fun !
