Fira How expensive????
Posted: Thu December 8, 2005 04:18 PM UTC
Please can someone help me by giving me an idea of just how expensive Santorini is???? I have heard that its cheaper to eat in Fira than Oia but not sure if its true? How much roughly does it cost for a 3 course meal in a nice restaurant? (Not looking for anything to fancy, just nice food). Food is a very important part of our holiday. Is the food on the island quite good? How much should we expect to pay for a pint of beer/bacardi and lemonade and glass of wine for example? Are the supermarkets expensive? Im from Scotland so not used to paying London prices!! I really want to go to Santorini but am worried it will be to expensivr for food and drink. I would just like an idea so I can work out a budget for food and drink. Also is the island crowded in September? Thinking of staying for 1st 2 weeks September next year.

I appriciate any help and advice! Apartments I have seen are in Imerovigli.
Thanks xxx

Imerovigli is not very far from Thira. There is a beutiful promenade from Thira to Imerovigli.

Eating at the restaurants in SAntorini is not expensive. I thought it was quite expensive to have a coffee.

You can't miss that beautiful island!

The expensive places to eat (and accomodation) are those places you would expect, i.e. on the cliff top with the views. In both Oia and Fira town the less expensive places are at the inland side of the towns. Prices are a bit above the price of most islands, but that's the case for all touristy islands like Santorini. A standard 500g bottle of Amstel/Mythos would be something like 3-4 € wine around 4 € for 500g of house/barrel, never buy wine by the glass it's a rip-off. Chicken dishes roughly 7 €. Always insist on looking at the price list first, places with smarmy 'greeters' probably best avoided.

September is a good time to go for maybe 5 days then it would be better to go to other islands as there are good ferry connections.
