I spent a Christmas there a couple of years ago. There wasn't really anyone on the beaches that year - a little breezey, and the water wasn't really warm. There were a group that went in swimming on Christmas Eve at our hotel - I gather that once you're numb you don't feel a thing. There was a bad snowstorm on the Eastern Seaboard of the USA then, and we had gale-force winds, and a lot of rain over Christmas Day - some damage caused, and ferries cancelled. Having forgotten to see where you are from, not sure what you consider cold. I'm from Toronto, and it was quite pleasant for me - most of the time we did wear sweaters, or light jackets.
