We are travelling to Luxor in June with our children , youngest age 12.
We understand it's going to be hot,
I know about sun block, keeping covered up and plenty to drink , but does anyone have any other advise that would be useful?

Hi
Some good advice...:
get up early in the morning and visit the sites before noon, and if possible indoor museums in the afternoon...
The hot season has also advantages : less tourists...:-)

Enjoy it, stop being worried and have fun, Luxor is beautiful and the people are friendly they will take care of you. Also what Peter said early morning and inside in the afternoon is true but then I did not mind as I love the heat. And don't forget the bug spray even during the day 24/7 I wore bug spray just for safety as I do not like to be biten by anything.

Buy galabias (the local coverall cotton robes), for very little - OK, you'll get looked at, but they're the most practical garb for the climate.

Enjoy - it's beautiful!

It will be very hot in June. The best time to visit sites will be very early in the morning, and I mean early about 5pm, or the Temples you can leave till the sun goes down, actually a wonderful time to see them. I would also advise getting a local guide, as opposed to going with a big tour group, which can be as many as 50 people, which entails a lot of hanging around in searing heat. If you hire your own guide you can build your own itinerary, choose your own times, and give up if you've had enough. If you need advise about local guides, if you want to contact me, I can put you in touch with an excellent one, who will tailor make anything you wish to do.
Hope you have a wonderful time, it's a magical place

Both men and women should wear loose fitting cotton clothing.

Shorts are not approriate dress in Luxor, especially for women.

Long sleeves are advisable as the sun can be very fierce.

Other than that get up early and keep drinking water.

Always take a bottle or two of water with you when visiting the sites. The valley of the kings can be stifling especially inside the tombs. Most people get ill because they dehydrate without realising it.
Sunblock and big hats, stay covered up.

I took my daughter when she was 8 to southern Tunisia, over 40 degrees but she coped. She wore neck to ankle white pyjama's, a wide brimmed pink hat and was prompted to drink from her water bottle every 30 seconds. She coped with the heat better than me. Children are resiliant because they have parents looking out for them constantly. My advice: sunblock, white top-to-toe cotton, big hat, good sunglasses, water, water, water - for YOU as well as kids. Sorry to be parent to you but HAVE FUN & CHILL!
