| Omsk | Are there only three hotels in Omsk? Posted: Tue December 6, 2005 12:15 AM UTC
I plan to visit Omsk in the second week of January 2006. Various websites and discussion groups mention prices around $20 night. But, after hours of searching, I can only find three hotels (Tourist, Molodyozhnaya and Omsk) all quoting rates around $80-90. But then, none seems to be available in January! Do they close when the weather gets cold? Has anyone in Omsk got any ideas about where to stay - (closer to $20 than $90) and available?
Thanks |

Here are 13 hotels: http://www.komandirovka.ru/tema/Hotels/omsk.html
Business class: 1. "Irtysh" *** (3812)23-2702, (3812)23-2212 2. "Molodezhnaya" *** (3812)15-1816, 13-4855 3. "Tourist" (3812)31-6419 Econom class: 4. "Automobilist" (3812)41-1650, 51-0650 5. "Vzlet" ("take-off" ;-)) (3812)21-6362 6. "Mayak" ("lighthouse") (3812)31-5431 7. "Ogni Manega" ("lights of the circus ring") (3812)41-1701 8. "Oktyabr'" ("october") (3812)24-2887, 24-2886 9. "Omsk" (3812)31-2571 10. "OmskGrazhdanStroy"(3812)25-4779, 25-1247 11. "Sibir'" (3812)31-2571 12. "Fakel" ("torch") (3812)65-5937 13. "U Fonarya" ("nearby street lamp") (3812)138-453 Unfortunately there are very few info about all of them - "Mayak" and "U Fonarya". Last one seems to be very small and pretty (11 rooms only). If I were you, I will start with that one - 13th. ;-) Cheers, Pavel

Sorry, I wanted to say that on this site there is info only about 1, 2, 6 and 13. For my personal view 13th is the best option.

You should know that there are Christmas hollidays in Russia from Jan 1 till Jan 10. So, some hotels could be overbooked.

Just have in mind that most (if not all) hotels that Pavel quotes will not provide registration to foreigners, and will not accept a foreigner to stay more than three days.

It's not as dire as that. most hotels are just not very connected to the Internet, and you simply have to call them and speak to them in Russian. Okay, that may or may not be simple, but it does work. Broken Russian will usually work as well.

I know this is late but maybe it will be helpful for future reference...
I have stayed at the Tourist during cold months and they do offer visa registration too. The Tourist and Mayak hotels are in the city center (downtown) next to each other, they are on the river front. The Molodyozhnaya is a distance from the city center which is where many restaurants and store are. However, I think the accomodations there may be better. If you know someone there, you could also inquire about an apartment. The only problem would be registration then you would have to go to an office (I forget the name) and get your visa registered. But let me backup, you will need an invitation letter in order to be issued a visa. There are some agencies that can do this for you and if you know someone there, they may be able to do this too.
