I need to look for a transport from Uzhgorod to Kosice directly. Can anybody tell me about a bus/traincompany which provides such a service? it's for a friend which is ukrainian and has to go to Slovakia without passing Poland or Hungary(because of visa requiry)

I found the following link for Uzhorod- Kosice: http://www.sad-kds.sk/kralik/cp/CP802901.HTM Indirectly-Uzhorod is almost on the border as you probably know so get into Slovakia is very easy by foot.Then bus service to Michalovce and Kosice. BR, Maciek

NB:
Polish policy is making the visa procedure for Ukrainians -which was ( how to say it it and still be 'politicaly correct') forced by EU- the easiest as possible, and for free.

I also wish to make this crossing, but the URL doesn't work. Does anyone know how frequent busses are from Nemecke (inSlovakia just across from Uzhgorod) to Kosice?

I've been to Ushgorod in january. Actually, it's no problem to go there if you have one day time and don't intend to go back on the same day. We could only manage to go there for a one day trip because we met some really nice slovakians in the train, who drove us from michalovce to the border and back. A reliable (!) bus schedule, you will find on this page:
http://cp.atlas.sk/ConnForm.asp?tt=c&p=AT&cl=G5 The station next to the border is called: Nizné Nemecké It's the best to take the bus from Michalovce. From the border town it's a easy walk to the border. It's a bit an adventure to cross the border, at least it was for me:-) Huge fences, ukrainian flags and a big statue of any sovjet hero mark the border line. Count 1-2 hours for the border crossing. They try to annoy you as much as possible. Moreover there might be people passing next to you in the line because they pay bribe?? On the other side of the border Taxis are waiting. It's a short drive to the city center. Ushgorod is really beautiful by the way!!! It looks very developped! I suppose they make some money with border traffic... If you want to choose the less stressful opion, check busses straight from kosice to ushgorod. There should be at least one a day.
