Is it possible for me to travel from Kunming to Lhasa (Tibet) without flying. If it is, how long will it take? How many times will i need to stop? Where are the best places to stop? I will be happy for any help.

Yes you can..but the condition of the road is VERY bad.
From Kunming you go to Zhongdian(now known as Xianggelila or Shangri-la) which is on the Tibetan border where you kan make arrangements to Lhasa.
