I am going to be in Buenos Aires over New Years Eve and was hoping to hop over to Punta del Este. I have been having trouble finding a room. Does anyone have any tips for finding one on such short notice? Thanks.

Depending on how long you plan on staying in punta, u might want to consider renting an apartment. You can type in "inmobiliaria"(the word for realtor in spanish) any search engine along with the words "Punta del Este". Most buildings in uruguay have a doorman and are evry secure... i´m having the same travel plans, was new years eve in b.a. and now in punta del este till the 18th. would be great if we could catch up for a beer. let me know. cheers heiko
