Hobart Hobart accomodation New Year's Eve -- ack!
Posted: Sun November 27, 2005 09:29 AM UTC
We're all booked to go to Tasmania just after Christmas, but as we tried to book accomodation for the night of New Year's Eve, we find the whole city booked! Apparently, there's some Sydney-to-Hobart yacht race happening there around that time. What really hurts is the laughter on the phone when we call up places and ask if there's anything available :-/

Any recommendations? Know of any brand new or extremely out-of-the-way places in the Hobart area that might not have a full dance card? Or should we just sleep where we fall down (which might be a little cold)?

Help us, VT, help us!

I'll add an addendum to Jen's advice...here's the link: http://www.bugaustralia.com/reviews/Tasmania/Hobart/

You may wish to ask for private rooms too, mate. In such a case, you can still retain your privacy and some of these private rooms in the hostels aren't half bad. (At least the one at the Mongomery was so)

Good luck, mate.

Success! I tried a few backpacker places, who either had nothing available or couldn't guarantee me anything this far in advance. So I decided to look up pubs instead of hotels, as a lot of them seem to have rooms. Tried about five with no luck, and was ready to give up, but the sixth was willing to have us, and they're not too far from the center of town. Hooray! Thanks for your advice, everyone...
