Please be informed that hiring trafficked/ prostituted women in the Philippines is a crime and punishable under Philippine laws.

Wanderer, to update you, the law explicitly punishing the customers who engage in prostution was just enacted on Sept 30, 2003-- RA 9208. Prostitution has been illegal in the Philippines under the Vagrancy Act of the Revised Penal Code. It's not on the Constitution.

As about prostitution being part of any society, yes, it has been part for a long time, like abuse of and violence against women and this has to stop. Women are not commodities to be bought, or any person for that matter, male or female.

Exactly, if the demand is removed, the supply will cease. That's why the buyer should be penalized and this is what the newly enacted law aims to achieve. So buyers bewarned. This law is being enforced not only by the police but also by many vigilant non-government organizations which will pursue perpetrators to the full extent of the law. I even know of some who conduct entrapment operations.

c'mon...don't be a whuz...

instead of you wasting your time against prosititution in the phil, why don't you channel all your energy and resources against your corrupt government.

as long as you have a corrupt govt you will always have poverty and poverty will always lead to prostitution...be real, do you really think you can stop prostitution when people are getting hungry...that is what you call survival...

i used to be a filipino and i'm tired of you activists who fight the wrong fights...i've seen your kinds since the 70s and there is till nothing happening in your country...

Good point imysmticb. Activits like Activist are mostly talk with no action. It is amazing how the police can walk or drive up and down Fields Avenue and many other places in the Philippines and not do anything about the pirate movies being sold. I even saw a couple of policemen buying the newest releases. Ironically, the movie was Mel Gibson's movie, "The Passion of the Christ." I was hit from behind by a car. I had the proper license and violated nothing. Who got blamed and had to pay (on the spot)? Me because I was a foreigner. Even Filipinos around who saw the incident couldn't believe how corrupt the police were. THESE are the problems the ACTIVISTS need to get cleaned up. Once they do that, then they can get decent paying jobs and a better life. Fewer would turn to prostitution. What are the alternatives the activists suggest for the prostitutes? How about they (especially the activist posting here) go and hire those girls so they don't have to take part in man's oldest industry? Until she can do that, she should try cleaning up the REAL problem in the Philippines.

By the way, Activist ASSUMED you meant that you wanted a prostitute for a companion. I didn't see anywhere that you wanted to hire anyone for anything, especially sex. She ASSUMED the extreme which is usually the case with extremist. I hope you had a good time on your trip and even even helped a few with their tuition or whatever if that is what you wanted to do. I am headed there next month and can't wait!

Come on people, the guy asked a question and everyone rambled on about prostitution and the darn laws, if this is going to be an informative site then answer the questions put to you, yes you now know is is technically illegal to hire a prostitute, but very unenforceable, and it is totally tolerated unless you look for minors, then you deserve to go to jail, but any of the clubs you can pay there bar fine and get a girl, recommended in angelwitch club, has many ladies whom if just for entertainment (Not sex) will be glad to show you around and if sex is what you desire than that is up to you two consenting adults,that should clarify it, dont worry about the Vt poop house lawyers, just be nice and do the right thing, you wont have a problem.....
