Albuquerque questions about areas of abq (moving soon)
Posted: Mon November 21, 2005 01:02 AM UTC
hi, i'm going to be moving to abq in january and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what some of the areas are like.

what are the neighborhoods like around central ave & louisiana? gibson blvd & san pedro, and juan tabo blvd & central. are they cool, ie. things to do like shopping, cafes, movies, etc. are they semi safe?

thanks in advance

I agree w/ prometheus on this one :) I would avoid Louisiana and Central like the plague ....... really!
If you want a neighborhood for walking to cafes and shops, I'd recommend the area near the University. There is a lot of diversity in that region .... varying from the 'student ghetto' to faculty like neighborhoods ..... in adds, the areas would be called 'University Area', Nob Hill, and Ridgecrest. Whatever you decide, go for a month to month at first to be sure you like the area .... that way if you don't like it, you can easily get out of that rental and move to another ;)

Good luck w/ your move, and hope to meet you about town someday.

Thank you both for saving me some trouble. no wonder rent around central & louisiana is so cheap! unfortunately i won't be able to visit before i move so your advice is much appreciated. i'm now leaning toward answering some roommate adds just so i can have a spot and get a feel for the city before i decide on my own place.

That's actually a great idea ..... and if it doesn't work out, you simply move in a few weeks :) You'll love ABQ - eventually ..... it is the largest city in the state, but still tons smaller than DC in population, and pretty spread out :) Keep in touch w/ us as you get closer to coming on out here ... and let us know your first impressions!
