Stopping in Dominica in December have around 8 hours ashore. The Ship does a tour taking in Trafalgar Falls and Emerald Pool. Can this be done privately ashore, or are we better taking the ship's option?
any advice would be helpful |

We made a similar cruise port stop in Dominica several years ago. We booked our island tour to these attractions through the ship, but you can arrange to see them with a guide on your own. However, I would recommend booking through the ship, because it is easier, the cost is similar, and with a ship sponsored tour you will be back on board the ship when it leaves the island later that day.
On your own, there are no guarantees, and the island and Trafalgar Falls and Emerald Pool are inland in the mountains - you always run the risk of something happening that won't get you back to the port in time when the ship sails. Although beaches are scarce, it is a very beautiful island.

You can book your tour in advance at www.travelbarefoot.com
It is a lot cheaper not to go through the cruise line as they just about double the rates on tours and excursion. Anyway, make sure you take a tour of this beautiful island. Enjoy!
