Varanasi Travel Forum

Can anyone recommend somewhere AMAZING to stay in Varanasi - somewhere to stay after 'popping the question'??? Not one of these big hotel chains - something with a little more charm???

Varanasi doesn't have all of the hotel options that many other places do. It's either guest houses along the river (amazing views, but not exactly the kind of private or luxurious place I"d want to stay after after answering the big question!) Most of the nicest places are the chains- The Taj, Radisson, etc. There was one smaller new hotel that had just opened when I was there in June- it was quite lovely, with an excellent restaurant and good service. Only problem is I can't remember the exact name. So in the am I'll call my friends there and get the name of the place and get it to you right away.

Ok- I found the name of the place, but I'm not really sure it's what you want.... how do you define "charm?" The new place is called the Meraden Grand. It is very modern, so may lack the type of charm you want, but it is beautifully decorated and quite stylish. It's away from the river, where it's more quiet. The street access is rather uninspired, but once you walk through the doors, it's a real oasis.

If old world style sounds more appealing, there's the De Paris. I haven't stayed there, but I hear that it's got a lot of character. The Paris should be easy to get info about, the Meraden Grand may take some searching- it seems that it's new enough not to be listed on a lot of sites.
