Narvik Catamaran from Narvik to Svolvaer
Posted: Sun November 6, 2005 01:35 PM UTC
Hello all!

We're planning to travel to northern Norway next June. Does anyone have information on the ferry from Narvik to Svolvaer? Specifically, how often does it run? Does it normally coincide with the Connex train from Lulea/Boden? How much does it cost? How often does it get cancelled (e.g. due to bad weather/high seas)? Any insights apprciated. Thanks for the help!

Not sure abouth when the catamaran goes or if it correspond with the train...
Normally where I used to live (Bodö, the city south of Narvik, "across" the bottom of Lofoten) the catamarans usually left four'ish (after work).
If the catamaran is canselled; be glad for it since it then is NO GOOD weather:) Most likely they would set up an bus. Don't think it would happen during june and also since it is "inland" voyage and not across the Vestfjord as the ferries from Bodö to Lofoten have to cross (more likely during autumn storms).
And if there is problem with the ferry, another will be put in its route or busses will be doing the transportation.

Thank you, Ruffen!

So it sounds like storms are unlikely in June, especially on the route from Narvik to Svolvaer -- and even if the weather were bad, they would run a bus instead. My wife and I still might go from Stockholm to Trondheim and then to Bodoe, but right now we want to go to Lulea and then to Narvik before going to Svolvaer. Thank you again for the help!

You newer know ;)
But highly unlikely on that "in-fjord" voyage.
As said I "only" take the ferry Bodö - Moskenes (which is across the outer-fjord) or Bodö - Stamsund (a bit further south than Svolvćr in Lofoten) and can't remember any ferries been stoped due to bad weather during summer times.
It can happen that the ferry don't go due to other problems, but there are always busses

At my Moskenesoya page there is a travel tip with link to the busses running up there.
