Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Getting to Bequia from Martinique
Posted: Tue November 1, 2005 08:58 AM UTC
Hello to everybody,
can you please advise us how to get to Bequia Island from Martinique. My husband and I are thinking of different options whether to fly to Saint Lucia and then take a boat to Bequia (may be too far) or to reach somehow Saint Vincent from Martinique (but how ?) and then take a ferry boat to Bequia ? Any piece of advice is welcome as for price/quality and type of transportation. Thank you, Nathalie

I think your best bet would be to get a flight from Martinigue to Barbados than to St. Vincent then take the 1 hour ferry across to Bequia. Sounds round about but that might be the only way the flights will go. Check with LIAT www.liatairlines.com or Caribbean Star (although I'm not sure Caribbean Star flies from martinique) LIAT's map shows from Martinique to Antigua to St. Vincent. That might be your best bet. There is a ferry from St. Vincent that runs regularly during the week but only a few times on the weekend. Takes about an hour to cross.

Do you have a place to stay in Bequia, I can recommend a place on Lower Bay called Kingsville Apartments. Nice chalet style places very close to the beach at Lower Bay.

You can fly from Martinique to St. Vincent and ferry over to Bequia but the flight takes a long way round.

These days, I would seriously consider the easycruise option which sails from Martinique every Tuesday and arrives in Bequia on Wednesday. The only catch is that easycruise demands a minimum fare equal to 2 nights stay on board. But I think it is still a lot less than the airfare and more fun. www.easycruise.com.

Thank you for your comments! Indeed, to find a way from Fort de France to Saint Vincent was really pain in the neck. We looked at easycruise, but unfortunately it provides the time schedule totally different from ours. We want to be in Bequia on Monday and also the return voyage from Bequia to Martinique would take 6 nights, instead of one day by plane. Look forward to reach the Grenadines! Cheers, Nata
