Bangkok Ambassador Hotel Bangkok

Hi all..am going to BKK next month and would like to find out the approximate distance from Ambassor Hotel to popular places like MBK and Chatujak. I've been to BKK but have never stayed in that hotel before..any comments on that establishment? My friend who did the booking mentioned that we're staying in their service apartments but I'm not sure if she's right cos the hotel site did not mention about service apartments.

The location of Ambassador is really convenient and to go to the main places, you just need to jump in the skytrain (station nana for ambassador).

Perso, I do not like this hotel. I stay there once. I paid smth like 1300 or 1500 bath and was not happy with the place.

Now it has become a pretty much family hotel with a lot of indian or arabic families. Breakfast buffet is a real disaster with 100s of people queueing to get food and drinks.

The pool is nothing special.

To make it short, if you just spend one or two nights it will be ok but for longer stay, I would look somewhere else.

I usually book my hotel in Bkk through www.asia-discovery.com

Cheers

L

I have stayed there and had no problems but do agree about the breakfast, but that depends what time you rise. Better to exit the Hotel by the back entrance and just walk straight ahead for Suhkumvit Rd, that way you don't get hassled by taxi drivers etc. Nana BTS is is right there MBK get off at siam Sqare and cross the platform and go one stop on the other line and you can walk into MBK from that station via the walkway. Chatachuk is at the end of the BTS from Nana down the steps a in a few yards you are at the Market.

The Ambassador is good located and if you stay on the Tower you will have a good room with a nive view. Of course today is not more a great hotel but in the coffee shop you have good food, i see a bottle of Petrus of 68000 bahts! In Sukhumvit you many nice shopping center, Emporium in Suk 24 is the finest in BKK, Times square is 5 minutes walking from Ambassador and Robinson is also 5 minutes walk.

Hi
This hotel is a 3star/4star hotel.
I say this is becasue there is an old wing(main wing) and the new wing (tower hotel)

Most of the sites which offer the Ambassador hotel rooms are from the main wing. Site like Latestays.com or lastminute.com ~ these sites offer the main wing hotel rooms. Its a bit run down (I am told)

If you book through the ambassador hotel site ~ http://www.amtel.co.th/bangkok/
you will get the chance to get the tower hotel rooms which are a bit more expensive from the main wing rooms.

I think she could have booked you in the tower rooms. There are no service apartments.

The serviced apartments for the Ambassador are known as the Ambasador Royal Suite and are located just across from one the entrances to the hotel on Soi 13. Never stayed in the suites so cannot comment on what they are like but in general I agree with most the above comments about the hotel itself. But if you are in the serviced apartmets you will have your own kitchen so maybe breakfast will not be an issue

i'm back from the abovenamed establishment. the serviced apts are in a separate building from the main hotel - Ambassador Royal Suite. in fact, it's across a small one lane which was flooded for the period of my stay. the building itself is extremely old and dark. we had to take a lift to the 11th floor, walk across to the lobby area to take another lift to our room. the corridors are atrium styled but no skylight, no windows. the corridors are extremely dark and eerie.

while it's a serviced aptment, there were no cooking facilities, no cutlery, crockery, microwave. we did have a fridge and 2 glasses. the room is pretty big with a spacious living area, a huge bedroom and a huge bathroom. but size doesn't quite mean luxury. the lighting in the apartment is terribly dim and it does feel eerie. it also feels very old. btw the pool is closed for renovation til dec 2005.

to be fair, we had a buffet lunch and a dinner at the restaurant in the main building and it was pretty good. but it's definitely more fun to have a walk outside to experience the street food. within walking distance, there are 2 7-11s and a night market. unfortunately, nov is their raining season, so several streets around the hotel were flooded pretty badly, almost knee high at some parts.
