| Herceg-Novi | 10 norwegians - where should we stay in Montenegro? Posted: Fri October 28, 2005 02:08 PM UTC
22 July 2006 arriving in Dubrovnik for two weeks holiday, two families with grown-up kids. Want to rent a house with AC, not far from beach, and not too far from restaurants and night-life. Have yoy been in the area?
Any suggestions? Maybe another place to stay in Montenegro or Croatia? Websites or phonenumbers are very welcome! Do you Greetings from Rosendal by the Hardanger-fjord, Einar. |

hello,
Before I can give you closer informations I would like to describe some places in Montenegro. I like Herceg Novi but not the beaches there ( same is with Dubrovnik ). Montenegro is very rich with nice beaches, you may look at my Republic of Montenegro general tips. If you are afther sandy beaches and a great nightlife I would suggest Budva. Sveti Stefan is awesome place but for night fun you would need to go to Budva. It is only about 5 km thoug. Kotor has the richest history but is lacking on sandy beaches. It realy depends what your preferences are. Regards, Vesna

Very well, Vesna!
Two quick answers from you were what I needed. When you're planning a holiday, "optimistic cries" like yours keeps me on the track. That website, visit-m.com, is good. Still it will be Montenegro, but where? Anybody else with experiences to tell me about? And maybe 2 apartments for 4+6 (we're 10)will be easier to find? Yours, Einar, from the Folgefonna county of fjords and glaciers.

Hello Einar,
Beleve me it will not be any problem in finding right place for you. If you decide to stay in Budva ( which is the best choice for the younger once ), two appartements will be found with an ease. If you are for something more quit than it is a bit more difficult, but no problem when booked in advance. I have a friend in Budva tourist agency and I know that there is a lot of availability when in time.I can even contact him in the end of May (now is too early )to see how things are going, or even better , I can give you the phone number to arrange things in the best way in direct nagotiation. Take care, Vesna

Good everning from Budva
I think that we can help you, but first you have to help us. 1.Can you please tell us how many rooms you need? 2.Did the rooms have to be with separate bed or twins? Pls note Budva is very popular place in midle of July.My sugest is that you make reservation minimum 2 or 3 month in advance. We can offer you some nice apartments in centre of Budva, only 5 minutes from beach and 8 minutes from Old Town Budva. All apartments have aircondition, tv cable kichen sleaping and dinning room bathroom. This summer the price have been from 15 to 20 euro per person per day. We can offer you nice big flat in centre of Budva with two sleaping room dinning room, bathroom, kichen, tv cable aircondition. The price for this summer was 14 euro per day per flat. If you are interesting for more information please contact me on mail address adriaticclub@cg.yu Best regards from Budva Marija Pavlovic

So far several helpful answers to my prayer. Thank you!
Have you ever experienced something odd in Budva, or in another place in Montenegro, something that makes me determined that's where I want to go? - Have you been staying 'on' a beach, where the angels sing at night? Still searching for a special summer holiday! Greetings from Rosendal at ther Hardanger fjord. Einar.

Been to Budva last year.
You can stay closer to Mogren beach for nicer sand, the entrance was Euro 1, though. Be careful , the path has no railing. The public beach next to the citadel was free as money goes but hardly vacant. Beaches further to Slavenski Plaz are said to be well populated, too. Something special to take home - Vranac, the wine. The quality varies, so do the prices. I think our guide recommended Vranac Procorde. You can try smaller places 3 - 4 km from Budva - Becici and Rafailovici, there is a tourist train going there. Note: the currency is euro. Public bathrooms in Kotor - 0,5 Euro

Well, as you'll already have sun, sea, nightlife etc. part of the vacation in Dubrovnik and you'll be going in a peek of summer season, I'd rather skip major seaside resorts in Montenegro and spend more time in the backcountry and up in the mountains. How long do you want to stay in Montenegro, few days during that 2 weeks holiday, or you'll stay more? If you have just few days, then rent a car/van/.. and from Dubrovnik go to Herceg Novi and make a break there - it's really nice old town (and I love it out of season, but it's too crowded over the summer and there are no good beaches), but after checking it out if you should continue driving through Boka bay. Don't use the ferry but instead take a road that goes all around the Boka. You can try to find place to sleep in Morinj (a short drive after you pass the ferry port of Kamenari), or (better) keep driving through Risan (you should make a short break as well) and go to Perast - its beautiful and quiet (actually too quiet) old town. Sleep a night or two there, you can use it as a base to go to Kotor (really nice old town, if you don't need beaches then it's much better than overcrowded Budva). Then drive towards Budva, make just a short break there (check out the old town, it's more quiet during the day) and try to find accommodation in Rafailovici, Sveti Stefan or Petrovac (or smaller places on that road). Spend a night there and then go early next day to Skadar lake (alternative is to go to Bar and Ulcinj first, and then to Skadar lake). After spending some time there, you'll have few hours of driving towards the Zabljak mountain. You can rent a house for few days here and spend some time hiking around, or ogranizing the rafting trip to Tara river. From Zabljak you can go back to Dubrovnik, either using the route that goes back to Montenegrian coast, or go to Trebinje in Bosnia/Hercegovina and from there back to Dubrovnik.
