I will be visiting Essen soon and I would like to know what is the best and easiest way to get there. Amsterdam to Essen or Frankfurt to Essen?
Any recommendations will be very much appreciated. Thanks |

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en From: Schiphol (Amsterdam Airport) From: FRA (Frankfurt Airport) To: Essen From Frankfurt Airport there are also direct IC trains. Choose at the DB timetable as means of transport "without ICE" to see connections by IC trains. Slower than with the ICE, but also cheaper. And they use the much more scenic route through the Middle Rhine Valley. http://www.talderloreley.de/index.en.php

Hi,
depends also a bit on the rest of your trip. If you visit other places /countries it's good also to look at what's convenient and cheaper to travel onwards. For example if you also visit Britain, there are cheap flights with Ryanair and others to many German airports. And it depends on your trip across the Atlantic - if Frankfurt, Amsterdam or any other town gives the best offer and good onward connections, just travel onwards from there. As Abalada pointed out there are good train connections from both towns to Essen. And even if you decide to use the fast but more expensive ICE, the Dutch railways have quite good offers, for example Amsterdam-Cologne (from there local trains to Essen) from 38 Euro for a return. Have a nice trip! P.
