| Cuzco | Machu Picchu Posted: Tue October 25, 2005 12:25 PM UTC
Hi!!
I'm travelling to cuzco on the 8th of nov. i am not an avid trekker and am going solely for the purpose of viewing this most fantastically located archeological sites. my questions are - is it relatively easy to get a train ticket the same day this time of year - it's probably raining a little, and by no means high season! and do i need to spend a night somewhere up in the mountains to really be able to explore the ruins or do most people find it satisfying to do the journey from cusco and back in one day? Also i do not have hotel reservations in cusco yet - are they relatively easy to find once i get there - and how much should i expect to pay?! thanks in advance!!! |

I did stayed a night at AC and took the 6:30am bus to MP. It was nice to be up there before the sun is out, there was mist around and it gradually broke. It adds to the mysteriousness of the setting. I was hoping I could enjoy some quiet moments up there before the crowd arrived. But unforutnately there was some rowdy people there which were very annoying. I thought the sursie was not particularly impressive (at least the day I was there and I've heard similar comments before), so I think you won't miss too much doing a day trip to MP provided you're not planning to climb Wauyna Picchu. There's enough time to explore the whole place.
For the train tickets, I think if you go to the Wanchaq station a day before the trip to book the ticket, you should be OK.

My wife and I plan everything in advance. Except our Peru trip. We did everything after landing Cusco hotel, train to MP etc etc. No problem at all unless there is some festival during that time. We did not stay in MP but I heard it is not worth that much to stay back. However let me not make you feel that MP is boring. It is definitely an awe-inspiring place. You should spend time going around Cusco if you have time. Don't waste time in Lima. If you really have extra days go stay in the Amazon jungle. Peru is the best place, I will come back again
