We are experienced trekkers.
Would you be so kind as to inform us whether in Sikkim trekking in open areas with the Line permit along the well-beaten standard tracks WITHOUT GUIDES is permitted as it is in Nepal. We were unable to understand this from the official government site. Thank you in advance for an answer. Mikhail Z. Iofa, Professor in theoretical physics, Moscow State University, Moscow. |

I think, as a Foreigner, you will need a special permit to trek anywhere in Sikkim.
You may call7 write to Sikkim Tourism to obtain detailed information. For various Trekking offers, you may look at the following link: http://northeast.theindiancenter.com/sikkim-trekking-tours/

Dear Professor,
As per the local government norms trekking in Sikkim is possible with a valid trekking permit which can be obtained in gangtok through any reputed and reliable tour/trek operator. To enter Sikkim you require ILP which is also issued at the entry border to Sikkim at Rangpo and also at Indian Consulate around the world. At a span you can stay in Sikkim for 45 days after renewing your ILP with ease. Yoiu can visit http://www.incrediblehimalaya.com for further information. Best regards, Satish Bardewa. Sikkim, India.
