State of Sikkim Trekking in Sikkim
Posted: Wed October 19, 2005 06:58 AM UTC
We are experienced trekkers.
Would you be so kind as to inform us whether in Sikkim trekking in open
areas with the Line permit along the well-beaten standard tracks
WITHOUT GUIDES
is permitted as it is in Nepal. We were unable to understand this from the
official government site.
Thank you in advance for an answer.

I think, as a Foreigner, you will need a special permit to trek anywhere in Sikkim.
You may call7 write to Sikkim Tourism to obtain detailed information.

For various Trekking offers, you may look at the following link:

Dear Professor,

As per the local government norms trekking in Sikkim is possible with a valid trekking permit which can be obtained in gangtok through any reputed and reliable tour/trek operator. To enter Sikkim you require ILP which is also issued at the entry border to Sikkim at Rangpo and also at Indian Consulate around the world. At a span you can stay in Sikkim for 45 days after renewing your ILP with ease. Yoiu can visit http://www.incrediblehimalaya.com for further information.

Best regards,

Satish Bardewa.
