| Foz do Iguaçu | Specific Safety Posted: Tue October 18, 2005 09:13 PM UTC
I am thinking about flying from Rio to Foz early December and staying at Paudmir hostel. The two flights I am thinking about taking (through Gol) would get me there at either 12:30 at night or 1:30 in the afternoon. If I do the night one, I have two full days at the falls, if I do the afternoon one, I would have about a day and a quarter. I am not sure how safe it would be for me to arrive that late and how easy it would be to get to the hostel? Any help? I´m early 20´s, female and will be travelling alone.

Hi there!!!
I don´t know Foz so I can´t say much about the city. But I´m sure you´ll be fine if you take a taxi. Enjoy your trip!!! Thiago

If you arrive at night, the only way out is a taxi, and they would charge you about USD 20 - 30. You have no negotiation power. Take it or stay in the airport, not a recommended alternative. You have to assume that cost.
I would recommend that you take the flight that arrives at night, because that leaves you 2 days instead of one (you can´t do anything in 4 hours). The hostel is on the brazilian side. On the brazilian side there are buses during the day that go back and forth from Foz do Igauzu to cataratas brazilian side. When you go, also visit the Parque das Aves, with lots of toucans and more than 900 different birds. On the brazilian side, do the Cataratas trail, and be prepared to get wet. You can do that trail easily in 2 hours. Then have lunch at the top of the falls. Into the park there are panoramic buses that you can use. To go to the argentinian side is a different matter, and also you have many more things you can do, so it takes a full day. You have the upper trail, the lower trail, the boat ride (extra charge, about USD 30-35, but worth it), and the Garganta del Diablo trail. To reach the park, the taxis are expensive, and in bus it takes about 2 hours. You can enter the argentinian park only up to 4,30 PM, if I remember well, so it´s better to go early in the morning to make the most of your time. Best regards, Enrique
