Hi there!!!

I wouldn´t be worried about it. Fortaleza receives many tourists and it´s not among the most dangerous cities in Brazil. If she´s careful she´ll be fine.

Best regards,

Thiago

I generally play down the risks of visits to Brazil, but have to tell you that (in decades of global travel) the only place in the world where I've been mugged, at knifepoint, was on the Praia do Futuro, in Fortaleza, with my (Brazilian) wife and son, on a sunny Sunday afternoon, with lots of other people around. And my young son, living there, had his watch stolen several times. So, no paranoia, but you DO have to be careful.

If she's careful, she'll be fine. She won't need to expose herself to danger, and if she doesn't, she'll be fine. =) Fortaleza is the safest of the 5 biggest cities in Brazil, if I'm not wrong...
I've exposed myself to danger many times, I've been in Praia do Futuro at night, which is much more dangerous, and I've never had any problem.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask. =)

Btw, Robine, I'm sorry for what happened to you, but you were probably carrying valuable objects, weren't you? The thieves probably saw them...
and Praia do Futuro is definetly not the best place to bring and expose valuable objects... =|

No, certainly not, just shorts and T-shirt and towel in an old beach bag, plus enough money for a taxi and a beer.

You're welcome! =)

btw, Robine, it's always sad to hear that someone has been mugged, especially when he had to go through such a bad experience just because of worthless objects... =/
