If you are going on your own as a group, you can possibly hire a pickup taxi to take your group around, once you arrive at the Kanch' bus station. Those drivers usually hang around there waiting for business. Just bargain with them. I'm not sure how much it costs if you take a tour directly from BKK. You have a lot to cover in one day though, so you have to get there really early. My suggestion is to stay overnight if possible.

I agree with mim95. It is cheaper that way.

If you'd like to stay at a reasonable, but neat hotel. I recommend Duen Shine Resort. Ask for floating raft rooms. You are literally on the water, have air-con, a big deck with sofas and chairs. Rooms are about 25-34 USD for twin sharing (that's about 15 pp!). Book ahead as weekends are almost always full. Just staying one that there is a great experience.

There is a tour group there we went through about a month ago, GREAT service, very reasonable too. I can post the tour company name tomorrow.

Catch the train it's a really nice ride (local train). Cost you 25 baht each. Trains leave Thonburri staion 0745 and 1350. Arrive 10.30 and 1630.
Thonburri station moves up the line sometimes so allow a bit of time.

Accomodation in Kan is good value 450 baht $12 US a night will get you a nice guesthouse double with bath and air. The river Kwai hotel near the bus staion is 900 a night double, nice rooms but stay away from the restaurant.
Please visit Erawan falls you could probably get a mini bus with driver for about 1500 a day. Ask at Jolly Frog guesthouse. If not there are loads of day trips 11 people should have discount power. Take into consideration it costs 200 per to go into national parks. Included in price or not?
Contacts... BT travel (Tours). Mek and Me (car rental) and Jolly frog guesthouse (local knowlege) They are all close together.
