My question is, are there any hostels in Lier, cheap hotels for young people?

Hi there
No, there aren't any hostels in Lier - the ones closest by are Nijlen, Mechelen and Antwerp. If you check out my Lier travelpages you can find all the adresses for b&b there, and also two hotels. If you have questions, just ask. It's my hometown so plenty of inside information :) so to think, it's time that I update my Lier travelpage.... sooo much so tell Enjoy your stay Elke

Lier is absolutely beautiful and from Antwerp there are practicle every 10 minutes trains going and arriving.
So you can easily stay in Antwerp and make a daytrip to Lier. Depending on when you might even consider do the combination and buy a train+rent a bicycle ticket. The only thing that is a bit a pity is that you cannot visit all the places if you are not with a city guide. Nicest time is in Spring or Summer when the bridges are decorated with flowers. On Sunday morning you have the pigeon markets, very unique but slowly disappearing because the sport of pigeon competitions is not so popular in Belgium anymore amongst the young ones. Don't miss the Zimmertower and the Opsomer Museum. Take a walk through the Beguinage and maybe see the local painter at work. When the weather is nice he has his window open and make a little chit chat with you. and don;t miss trying out the local pasteries. Here are some albums of past visits: http://public.fotki.com/Karibu/academic_year_20042 http://public.fotki.com/irisbe/virtual_tourist_mee http://public.fotki.com/Irisbe/visitors/aadil/aadi http://public.fotki.com/Irisbe/visitors/tom_engonn and don't forget to visit the pages about Lier on VT. I think you made a good choice to visit this little unknown city :)
