Isle of Wight Is this Sandown or Shanklin?
Posted: Fri October 14, 2005 12:48 AM UTC
I visited the Isle of Wight in 1994 and have a photo I can't identify. I did a circular tour but mislabelled some of the photos. Couls someone kindly tell me if this is in Sandown or Shanklin (?? elsewhere):

This picture is part of my photo album but I am NOT trying to get people to visit the photo album site, simply help me figure out where I went for a swim one day. Thank you.

Hi

I was in the Isle of Wight earlier in the year at both Shanklin & Sandown but I didnt particuarly recongise you photo. However I have found this photo of Sandown on the net. The cliff looks similar, so I think it could be Sandown where your photo was taken http://www.iwcam.gothere.uk.com/iwcam/2001Walks/010420-Shanklin/Pana05-CulverCliff.jpg

Hope this helps,

(~_~)

I cannot be 100% certain but your picture looks like the beginning of the cliff/rock formation that is part of the Needles which leads to the lighthouse.
If this is so then this is at Alum bay on the opposite side to Shanklin.
There is indeed a nice beach there.

I have changed my mind (~_~). I think it is Freshwater, on the south west of the Island, east of the Needles. http://www.stacey.peak-media.co.uk/IoW/Freshwater/1500Freshwater024_14.jpg Have a look at this photo. The end of the cliff is the same.

It does indeed look like it was Freshwater Bay. My "foggy" memory is staying at a B&B across from a new home under construction (a $$$$ monster home). The beach was a long walk down a somewhat unpaved road (1982) where I was able to sit on some rocks and dangle my feet in the water or take a swim. I'll label it Freshwater :) Thanks. Now onto next mystery picture <LAUGH>
