Hi,
I am taking as group of young kids, 14-15 years-old, boys/girls, to Koblenz, next June. Any exciting things for them to do over there, as it will be the first time for me Thanks |

Some ideas: By boat or train to Moselkern and from there walking to Eltz Castle. Burg Eltz is one of the best preserved medieval castles in Europe. Is this a school trip? You can show the film "The Bridge at Remagen" in advance and visit the peace museum in the remains of the bridge. http://www.bruecke-remagen.de/ Both places are approx. 30 min by train from Koblenz.

Hi,
have a look at www.loreleytal.com/rheinburgen, maybe you want to visit one of the famous rhine castles, or www.k-d.com to make a ship cruise (my favorite is Dampfer Goethe). You can also go from Koblenz by chairlift to Festung Ehrenbreitstein. There is also a chairlift up the rhine in Boppard and in Assmannshausen and Rüdesheim. Maybe you want to visit other citys along the rhine, there is a big fun-fair in Mainz from 23-26 June, called Mainzer Johannisnacht, with a firework on Mo 26. on the rhine.

Where are you staying?
In the youth hostel at Festung Ehrenbreitstein? http://www.djh-info.de/cms/front_content.php?idcat Nice youth hostel and nice location. By the nature of this place of course not really central. Than I would just mail the youth hostel. You won't be the first school class there ;-). You could also mail to the Koblenz tourist office. They often have special programs/ideas for school classes and other groups. Both mail addresses can be found on the above linked page. Would be important to tell them the size of your group. Because some things can be only done with smaller groups. While e.g. for hiring an own bus (if you don't bring one) a certain minimum size is necessary to make this an affordable deal. With an guided tour in English the following museums are interesting: http://www.landesmuseumkoblenz.de (mainly on local "industries" (wine, pumice, ...) http://www.rhein-museum.de (mainly about the Rhine and shipping) Most museums have special tours for school classes on request.

An interesting offer is the Rhineland-Palatinate Ticket
http://www.bahn.de/regional/view_nav4/mdb/pv/pdf/r This ticket is valid one day on all local trains (S-Bahn, RB, RE) in the states Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. On weekdays however only past 9am. It is good for up to 5 persons travelling together. Besides the trains it covers furthermore all local public transport in Rhineland-Palatinate e.g. buses in Koblenz and trams in Mainz. Two interesting cities you can reach on this ticket in approx. 1,5 hours from Koblenz - Trier http://www.trier.de The oldest German city and in Roman times the biggest city north of the Alps. - Mainz http://www.mainz.de As hometown of Johannes Gutenberg the Gutenberg Museum on the Art of Printing is a must. Also interesting (and free entrance): the Museum of Ancient Shipbuilding. The map on the leaflet is a bit confusing: Frankfurt (and Frankfurt Airport) are in Hesse Bonn and Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia Thus you cannot reach these places solely with this ticket.
