Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Drammen feeling a little frightened
Posted: Sun October 9, 2005 02:37 PM UTC
Hi all, In december I will be moving to Drammen from the UK to be with my English partner who has a job in drammen. I have a four year old daughter and although very excited I am also apprehensive, not knowing what to expect. I would love for anyone in Drammen to get in touch with me and maybe give me a few tips on how to survive.
Many Thanks

Hi, I'm from a small city my self, have looked into drammen it's self and am very happy we will be staying there. It's just that I can't find information on any preschools or nurseries for my daughter, and I'm quite a sociable person and am worried that while my partner is working I will be sat at home all alone. I know this probably sounds silly it's just a big step for me.

Ah...I see. I don't think there is much to worry about though, when it comes to your kid. But when it comes to being social...just remember, you have to make the first "move" to make friends. Norwegians are "shy" you might say.. But very friendly and curious! ;)

As said before, N.s are "shy" and reserved to strangers. But also curious and friendly when they learn you can communicate. Whites are accepted readily. Most N.s have a good knowledge of English, even if not practicing. From the links and persons mentioned above you might get some ideas on activities to get strangers "going". Drammen have a large percent of refugees/immigrants, many of them in the part of the city called Fjell.
Kindergarten would be a good place to start, but don't rush it! You may have to rely on your partner to get you "involved". Have you searched this Forum for members in Drammen ?

No I have not looked for people in drammen, but that is a very good idea thank you. I am attempting to learn a little norwegian now! it's slow going but I'm trying. I have just booked some flights to come out in a week as that is when my partner starts is job, i am really excited. Every one that has replied to me has been really great and I am definately more at ease now. Thank you
