India Transport, Flights, Train & Tour

Hi

I am planning to book a flight between Goa & Delhi with Spicejet airlines. Has anyone flown with Spicejet & able to recommend them, I have emailed them with a couple of questions a week ago but still awaiting a reply.

Plus is there a bullet train between Goa & Mumbai taking the travel time to 4 hours instead of 12, I have read of one, but can not find any recent information.

Lastly we are planning to visit Corbett National Park in the Himalayan foothills, can anyone recommend a cheapish tour from Delhi for a few days to the park or how frequent public transport is from Delhi to the park. Any advice gratefully received

Many Thanks
Nicola

I myself have not flown by Spice jet, but some friends who live in India have. It is a cheap convenient no-frills airline. It will take you comfortably from one point to another.

Bullet train between Bombay and Goa? Surely you must be jesting. the distance is 560kms and no train goes at an average of 150km/hr for 4 hours on the trot that I know of. check Konkan Railway's web site and fares from Mumbai to Margao. It might be better to take the Konkan railway as it is a very scenic journey through mountains and valleys.

Corbett lies in the Terai region in Uttarkhand - 300 kms from delhi. I do not know of any travel agencies off the top of my head, but some other VT members may be able to help you.

Hi Nic,

I know loads of mates who have flown with Spicejet...as already said its cheap & cheerful...Easyjet style.

Never heard of a 4 hour train from Goa/Mumbai...Indian trains are VERY slow! Why not ask VT'r Aadil...he lives in Mumbai.

Enjoy your Sunday...

Many thanks for your replies & re-assurances about Spicejet. (~_~) As for the train I have read a few websites about a bullet train being introduced, but these date back to 2002 & 2003, I assume the proposition never got off the ground...

A quote from one of the sites I have found is:

The Konkan Railways' much-awaited Goa-Mumbai bullet train service would commence shortly, Minister of State for Railways Bandaru Dattatraya said on Tuesday.

The bullet train, which would be fitted with an anti-collision device (ACD), would cover the distance between Madgaon-Mumbai in five hours, the minister told reporters here.

And another site, http://www.rediff.com/money/2002/jul/30rail.htm

Thanks again for taking the time to reply, I think we have decided to give Mumbai a miss and stay longer in the Delhi area now anyway.

Have a great Sunday
Nicola

Thanks for your reply Planetparty, the bullet train I have read about was between Goa & Mumbai, not Mumbai & Delhi see my link & reply above. We are only in India for 15 days are not even visiting a small percentage of the places we would love to, I have no doubt we will be back & visit Mumbai another time.

Happy travels
