RE: Self catering accommodation for family get-together Posted: Thu October 6, 2005 05:21 PM UTC
I stayed with a big group of friends, for a weekend, at School House in Bradnop, on the edge of the Peak District National Park, quite close to Leek. It has five bedrooms: 2 doubles (one with a cot) and 3 twin rooms. It also had two bathrooms, two sitting rooms and a giant kitchen with two big tables that we managed to fit everyone round for lunch. The garden was nice and fenced in, so I'm sure the children could play outside safely too. In fact everyone said at the time it would be perfect for a family get together!
We loved the place, which seemed very atmospheric with its old beams, stone walls and wood burning fire. We thought at first it might be a bit chilly but it was in fact really cosy (there's central heating too) and took no time to warm up whenever we got back.
It was excellently equipped; we couldn’t think of a single thing the owner hadn't thought to provide. We just had to supply our loo rolls and, if you're going to keep the fire on all the time, you might need some extra wood.
The countryside around Bradnop was really pretty and the walkers in our gathering sang the area's praises too. If the children fancied Alton Towers, that's not too far away either.
You can find more info about it and see pictures of it at this website: www.sykescottages.co.uk/cottages/695.php
Hope this helps. Have fun!
