Cork Stag weekend/B'day/St Patricks Day
Posted: Thu October 6, 2005 08:36 AM UTC
Looking to stay over in Cork next March around the 17th for 3 nights with a few friends.
Being the St Patrick's Day Festival in Cork, are the drink prices likely to shoot up for this occassion or not??
And...........is Cork a good place to go for a stag weekend, bear in mind we're not a bunch rowdy bloated English idiots you can get in some places on a stag do!
We intend to have a few drinks but see a bit of the culture as well. (That's the plan anyway).

ANy advise would be grand!!

hey there,
Yep, Cork would be a good place to go for a stag.
usually drink prices don't go up for paddys day, they are quite well regulated. Don't drink in your hotel as these will be dearer anyway (as with all hotels worldwide) There's loads of good pubs with music in the city. Oliver Plunkett Street would be a good place to start. You can get Trad music, cover bands and up and coming bands some decent tribute bands and the pubs don't usually have any cover charges, although durning the Patricks Day and weekend they might put on a few euro charge. There's a great Thai restaurant in Patricks street where it meets MacCurtin Street. Try it out.

Enjoy.

And also accomodation is always snapped up early around St Patricks Day so set those wheels in motion as soon as you can.

Cork would be good for your kind of stag. A lot of pubs will turn away the louder big stag groups. Which is fair enough cause they just tend to annoy everyone else in the pubs.
Drink prices shouldn't change for Paddy's Day.
As for culture : look up what will be on in The Opera House www.corkoperahouse.ie around that date.
Visit the new Lewis Glucksman art Gallery in UCC grounds www.glucksman.org.
For trad gigs ask around in the pubs when you get here, there's always something on.
Visit the Crawford Art Gallery in the city centre.
And look up http://www.cork2005.ie/home/default.asp for events on closer to the date.
Hope you've a great time.
Clo.
