My Husband and I will be travelling to Niamey next year (2006) and are wondering if it is axceptable for men to wear shortsfor work. I have been told that my husband will have to wear long pants at all times, which will be hard in given the heat over there.
We are Australians living in Darwin, Northern Territory. |

If it's any help, it is not acceptable to wear shorts to work in East Africa. I would presume that it's the same in other parts of Africa. In fact in Kenya grown men don't wear shorts unless maybe when hiking but not in the street.

Hi!
In my experience as a female it was definitely not ok to wear shorts. Legs are a very private thing in Niger, but on that note foriengers and even more so, men get away with a lot more than Nigeriens do. It wouldn't be so uncommon for a man working at an NGO to wear shorts from time to time. Sorry to be so wishy-washy. Hope this helps! Take care and best of luck! I truely loved my time there :)
