About money

What currency should I use in Jordan, I read somewhere that $US is preferred. Do I need to take them with me or is it easy to get hold of $US there. I have plastic that I can use to draw out local currency but I am uncertain what to do if I need $US as I will be travelling for a couple of weeks in Egypt prior to going to Jordan and don't like to have lots of cash on me. I could take travellers cheques I guess but can't find anything that tells me if it is easy to use them there.

Any advice would be appreciated. This is a first time trip to Middle East for this Aussie.

you should use JD's or Jordanian dinar..........stores do not take dollars.................only hotels.........and only maybe big ones think............and getting dollars is easy.........exchangers are almost at every corner...........there is no black market too........the exchange rate for dollars is almost the same where ever you go.....travellers cheques are accepted at only hotels too...........have fun

No need to use dollars, use Jordanian dinars. I exchanged dollars for dinars at a money changer in central Amman the first day i arrived. I was also able to pull local currency from ATMs.

Thanks Justin,

My only worry now is the low value of the Aussie dollar but that's what we have to deal with everywhere.

I too have your malais and work only to save money for travel. Enjoy your travels - come and see us down under some time.
